1. During this semester my favorite project was the landscape painting. It was one of the only projects that I thought was pretty decent, and i actually enjoyed making it. Experimenting with the paints was fun because we got to learn how to create new colors by mixing, and then use them to make a scene. I liked the fact that we were given a choice as to what exactly we were painting. Though we were assinged the task of creating a certain landscape, there were limitless ideas you could have used and we took advantage of that! My painting consisted of snowy mountains, a bright blue pond and a little deer standing on the bank. I tried to incorperate several of the outdoor settings I liked, which turned out well in the end.
2. I think the project I learned the most from was the chalk mural. It called for a variety of skills not only in art, but also cooperation. It taught me that everyone is good at diffferent things so in order to produce the best product, you have to put them in charge of what they would do best at. Asides from the group work portion of the activity, i also learned how to properly apply shading to all sorts of shapes. Our groups mural, of a spider, started out a bit dull but after shading, it improved dramatically. I think that shading was one of the more important lessons to be learned this unit, because it is used so often. Shading is what really brings a piece of artwork to life and we were able to take part in learning this through the project.
3.i think that the one project i used past experience to create was the print project. I benefitted from past knowledge gained about positive and negative space, a concept i learned from the Stencil project. When creating the stencil we had to understand how to locate a specific area of a picture and remove it, a process we used threshold on photoshop to complete. This idea was very similar to the prints. We once again had to locate specific portions of a sketch to remove so that a scene would be visible through only the use of a single color. I think i showed a great improvement due to the fact that I performed fairly well with the project, and this time, unlike the stencils, i created the cutouts freehandedly.
4. The least important project that i feel we had was the light Project. I understand that maybe creating artwork with a glowstick may be interesting, but there really wasnt much to learn from it. Basically all we did was wave a bunch of lights back and forth behind a stencil. In other words it was a semi useless project that required a very small amount of skill. Though it may be creative and fun in a way, there is really no educational gain related to this activity. If the objective in art class is to learn and develop new skills then I would not reccoment this for future reference.
5. The piece of artwork that reflects my artwork most, would probably be the clay tile. I enjoy to create things that I can relate to. My clay tile applies for this reason because I made a chinchilla, which is what i have as a pet. It seems more fun to participate in art when you can base it off of your own interests and likes. It makes art overall more entertaining and interesting, when you can learn new skills by incorperating it with projects you love making.
